Continued Education – Vocational Training – Job

The BIG choice that students need to consider when making plans for life after high school is whether to continue their education, get vocational training, get a job, or balance work and school. Transition planning helps with these decisions.

It is important to consider the benefits and challenges of your educational options.

Some things to consider are:

  • Whether you want training for a specific job or a more broad education
  • If you are looking for specific job training, would a community college or trade school work best?
  • The length of time required to complete the program
  • The application and entrance requirements
  • The costs of the programs and whether financial assistance is available
  • The location of the program

The Department of Education has a helpful online resource that provides additional questions on each of the above topics.
