Long term memory is like the filing system for your memories.  This is what you use when you are studying for tests.

Problems that can occur in long term memory:

  • Information is not organized in a meaningful way.
  • Information isn’t used, so it is hard to get to.
  • Memory can get jumbled

Increase your long term memory by using the same skills you use to help your working memory. Make the information meaningful and give yourself clues to help you get to what you need to remember. Also, try to make it fun! Thinking of dull facts in a funny or silly way makes it easier and more enjoyable to remember!
