Experts estimate that approximately 5-21% of children and teens that have a TBI go on to develop post-traumatic epilepsy.

Of these individuals, 4-19% of them had a seizure very soon after their TBI.

People who have a more severe TBI are more likely to develop seizures at some point after the injury.

People who have seizures during the first week after their injury are also at a higher risk of having more seizures later and developing post-traumatic epilepsy.

People who are in a coma for a long period of time (more than 24 hours) or who cannot remember anything for the first 24 hours after the injury are also at higher risk of having seizures.
