Accomplish tasks:
- Create a positive state of mind before starting tasks.
- Use positive self-statements and stress management techniques.
- Use strategies to help improve attention and memory, like setting up a quiet study area and breaking down assignments into smaller steps.
Stay in control:
- Plan for success by setting up a daily routine and giving yourself choice and control by finding elements in your day you can structure yourself.
- Make tasks interesting, meaningful, and doable.
- Create positive behavioral momentum by reminding yourself of past successes, starting on tasks that are easier or more enjoyable and at times getting a little help at the start.
- Reduce temptations that are known to lead to trouble.
Monitor yourself by getting S*M*A*R*T:
- Stop and

- Appraise – How are other people reacting?
- Reflect – Is this likely to turn out the way I want it to?
- Try a Different Behavior – Try something else and see how it works.

Communicate and Take Care of Yourself
- Use “I messages” to express yourself.
- Pay attention to nonverbal cues and what is said in social situations and adjust your behavior as necessary.
