Accommodations or Modifications

  • Request a tutor to help you understand class material and to help you keep up with assignments.
  • Ask to see the syllabi for classes and a description of the class requirements before classes begin.
  • Arrange to take more frequent tests that cover smaller amounts of material than the rest of the class or take long exams in chunks with short breaks in between.
  • Ask for extra time to prepare for presentations, take exams, or complete papers.
  • Ask for frequent feedback from the instructor about what is expected for assignments, information that will be tested, and the course learning objectives.

Strategies

  • Use memory aids such as the calendar function on your smartphone or tablet, note-taking aids or services, planners, notepads, or tape recorders.
  • Use index cards to record and group together small bits of information, key concepts, or new vocabulary.
  • Practice taking tests, writing term papers, and managing lab assignments.
  • Schedule weekly appointments with the campus writing center for help in organizing papers and proofreading drafts.
