
This can be a very fun relaxation technique. Paint Me Pain Free is a “warming” exercise. Warming exercises are believed to work by increasing circulation and blood flow.
1. Lie on your back and think about your favorite color. Blue or red are great colors, but any color will work, so choose the one that you like best.
2. Start at your feet. Imagine a very soft paintbrush being dipped into your favorite color paint. Imagine that the paint is warm. Imagine the brush beginning to paint your feet, including all of your little toes.
3. Feel the warm paint go onto your skin and feel your muscles relaxing as the warmth touches them.
4. Now, imagine the paint being painted all around and up your legs to your knees. Now imagine the paintbrush painting to your hips and on to your stomach.
5. Imagine the paintbrush going by your elbows, over your wrists, and all the way out to your fingers.
You should be feeling relaxed as a warm feeling “paints” over your body. Imagine that warm feeling traveling into your head. Then let that warm feeling rush away out of the top of your head, taking your pain with it. Just let the feeling float away, leaving your body warm and relaxed.
