Doctors may also use an EEG to record the brain waves during a seizure in order to understand the kind of seizure you are having and where it is at in your brain.

The EEG machine consists of electrodes that are glued onto certain areas of the scalp and record your brain activity. The electrodes themselves do not hurt and are easily removed by the doctor.

The EEG can be done in the doctor’s office, but most likely the doctor will have you wear the EEG home for a few days and then return to have it taken off. In some cases, the doctor might have you spend the night at the hospital for a period of time where he or she can try to get you to have a seizure by not letting you get a lot of sleep or by stressing you out.
